Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.1 Onikakushi is the first chapter of a multi-part visual novel series that has been fully released on Steam. The series rolled out chapter by chapter over several years: Ch.5 Meakashi (April 28, 2017), Ch.6 Tsumihoroboshi (June 14, 2018), Ch.7 Minagoroshi (July 18, 2019), and Ch.8 Matsuribayashi (May 14, 2020) — described at launch as "the final conclusion." Following the main story arcs, Higurashi Rei (a bonus/side-story chapter) launched on June 3, 2022. Finally, Higurashi When They Cry Hou+ — a bundled complete edition containing all chapters — released on November 10, 2023, with marketing copy describing it as the full, concluded story of Hinamizawa.
