Islands & Trains launched on May 29, 2025 and has received a consistent stream of updates throughout its first year and beyond. Within days of launch, the developers shipped a feature update adding new assets, an undo function, new achievements, and quality-of-life improvements (June 2, 2025). A second update on June 17, 2025 added more assets and the ability to reverse the train. In July 2025, the developers announced multi-train support — the most-requested feature since launch — and delivered it in a major update on August 27, 2025, which also added new crossing pieces, tree types, and train signal mechanics. Train movement and collision improvements shipped on October 10, 2025. A Christmas-themed content drop arrived on December 18, 2025, adding 12 new train engines and wagons, full snow coverage, and 24 unique holiday assets. The most recent update, a quality-of-life patch on March 19, 2026, addressed placement behavior, tile replacement, and display settings. Across the game's life, the developer has maintained a cadence of roughly one notable update every 1–3 months, with the last communication dated March 19, 2026. As of October 1, 2026, approximately 6.5 months have passed since that last post — slightly beyond the upper end of the historical update window. However, the Christmas update pattern (occurring in both December 2024 as a demo update and December 2025 as a full content drop) suggests seasonal content may be expected again in late 2026. No developer statement announcing the end of updates has been made, and the sustained pattern across the game's first year supports continued engagement.
