Just Shapes & Beats launched on May 31, 2018 and has received substantial post-launch content: Mixtape #1 in November 2018 (five new tracks), Mixtape #2 in December 2019 (a Shovel Knight-themed pack), Mixtape #3 in May 2020 (five more tracks), and the Lost Chapter in September 2021 (five new story mode stages including a new boss and a Hardcore difficulty). Feature patches continued through March 2023 with Steam Deck support.
On June 1, 2025 — the game's seventh anniversary — Berzerk Studio posted a direct developer update explicitly confirming that the team is "working on something" new for the game. They stated they were not yet ready to share details but were "working REALLY HARD on it all." This is an unambiguous statement of intent to release future content. Most recently, on October 14, 2025, the studio pushed a minor security patch, confirming the team remains active and engaged with the game. Together, these two posts from 2025 establish that the studio is alive, the game is being actively tended to, and new content is in development.

We have many different game experiences to offer! Story mode helps you learn the ropes with our intermediate-ish tracks and the optional Casual mode. When you think you’re ready, Challenge Runs is where you get to prove yourself: get judged on your skills by playing through randomly picked tracks.
