King of the World

King of the World launched as a paid game in October 2018 and transitioned to free-to-play on March 29, 2019 with the release of the Definitive Edition DLC. In February 2021, the developer retired the Definitive Edition model entirely and made all content — the campaign, map editor, and custom games — free for everyone, funded instead by a cosmetics system using in-game gems. Both DLC entries on the store are released and accounted for. The Definitive Edition (DLC-2) was functionally retired in February 2021 when its content was made freely available to all players, and the store description explicitly notes this ("Previously included in the Definitive Edition but now free for everyone!"). No unreleased DLC exists. Looking at the post-launch update history, the game received a major networking overhaul in June 2020, a full voice-acting pass for the campaign in May 2021, and a menu and quality-of-life update in April 2023. That April 2023 patch is the last developer communication about the game itself. In November 2025, the developer announced a brand-new second game — Ludus Magnatus: Gladiator Manager Simulator — with no mention of further King of the World updates. This strongly suggests the developer's attention has shifted to their new project. The game's update history shows a gradually slowing cadence: one major content drop (the networking relaunch in June 2020), a feature patch in May 2021, and a smaller feature patch in April 2023. There is no sustained pattern of regular major content releases that would suggest more is coming, and no announcements of future content. The last developer communication specifically about King of the World was the April 2023 update, and the developer has since publicly moved on to a new game. The game appears to be complete as a product.
