Evaluation

Koi-Koi Japan launched on April 27, 2015 and has received consistent developer attention over the years. On June 20, 2025, in a post celebrating the game's 10th anniversary, Zoo Corporation explicitly stated plans to "improve the system, add more language options, and respond to feedback received through the Community Hub" — confirming continued active development. True to that promise, the developer shipped a steady stream of updates: Ver.2.2.5 (June 26, 2025) added Mac 64-bit support, Ver.2.2.6 (August 8, 2025) revised English text and added German translations, Ver.2.2.8 (September 12, 2025) added Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese, Ver.2.2.9 (October 14, 2025) addressed a Unity security issue, Ver.2.2.10 (October 29, 2025) introduced screen resolution adjustment and multiplayer match count options, Ver.2.3.0 (December 19, 2025) added full Hana-Awase multiplayer functionality (a major new feature), and Ver.2.3.1 (January 6, 2026) expanded that multiplayer system with a lobby waiting mode and CPU fill-in support. All four DLC packs have been released, with the most recent (the Hana-Awase Rule Add-On) shipping on December 18, 2020. No specific future content has been announced, but the sustained cadence of feature updates throughout 2025–2026 and the developer's explicit commitment to ongoing improvements indicate active continued engagement with the game. As of today (October 8, 2026), the last developer communication was on January 6, 2026 — approximately nine months ago. Given the irregular but active update cadence seen throughout 2025 (with updates roughly every 1–3 months), nine months of silence is approaching the outer edge of what would be expected, but does not clearly exceed the established pattern enough to raise concern. The game remains in active development based on the sustained history of updates and the developer's stated intent.
