MageQuit launched on October 10, 2019 and has received steady updates over the years, including major content drops like Steam Spells (June 2020), a Nintendo Switch release with crossplay (September 2021), and Ice Spells — the 10th element (February 2022). Feature patches continued through December 2023 (Holiday Patch adding new stages) and September 2025 (Thicc Roccs Patch with significant spell rebalancing and performance improvements). The most significant recent signal came on January 31, 2026, when developer Brett announced that Bowlcut Studios has spent the past couple of years working on a co-op roguelike sequel called MageQuit Dungeons. The announcement was focused entirely on that new project — wishlisting, a new Patreon, and devlog plans for the sequel — with no mention of additional planned content for the original MageQuit. The last developer communication for the base game was a Unity security vulnerability patch on October 12, 2025. While the studio is clearly still active (given the January 2026 sequel announcement), there are no outstanding content commitments for MageQuit itself, no unreleased DLC on the store, and no roadmap or developer statement promising further updates to the base game. The historical update cadence — roughly one or two major content drops per year — has not produced a new release since the Ice Spells update in February 2022, which is now over four years ago. The recent patches have been maintenance and balancing work rather than new content additions. The studio's focus appears to have shifted to MageQuit Dungeons. MageQuit itself reads as a completed game that continues to receive occasional maintenance, rather than a title with active new content in the pipeline.
