MapleStory

MapleStory is a long-running free-to-play MMORPG that has been operating since 2003 and has been available on Steam since August 9, 2012. It is designed as an ongoing live game with no defined endpoint, continuously receiving new content on a rapid cycle. Since the previous assessment on June 17, 2026, two more major updates have shipped in quick succession. On June 16–17, 2026, v.269 Ride the Lightning launched with the new Erel Light playable class, a new Malefic Star boss, Operation: Dive Phase 1 (a new story event with a roguelite-style dungeon), and Discord voice chat integration. Then on July 22, 2026, v.270 Ride the Lightning followed with a new Jupiter boss, the newly discovered Geardock area, Astra Secondary Weapons, Destiny 2nd Transcendence Weapon, a revamp of the Kinesis class, and Operation: Dive Phase 2 — the second half of the story event that was explicitly previewed and promised in the June update. Beyond regular game updates, Nexon is actively developing a Global MapleStory Classic World mode. On July 16, 2026, they announced Closed Online Test #2 for August 4, 2026, expanding on an earlier test with new features including macOS support and 3rd Job Advancement. This represents a substantial new initiative running alongside the main game's update cycle. The store description continues to emphasize "never-ending challenges" and an ever-expanding roster of over 40 classes — consistent with a game designed to grow indefinitely. The developer's update cadence remains unchanged at roughly every 6–8 weeks, with the most recent major patch (v.270) arriving on July 22, 2026.
