Evaluation
Mecha Knights: Nightmare launched on August 30, 2021 as a solo-developer passion project. After launch, the developer actively expanded the game with two paid DLC expansions: Operation Ascalon (March 22, 2024), a full mini-campaign with 7 missions and extensive new content, and the Raid Map Pack (July 12, 2024), adding 5 new raid maps.
When releasing the Raid Map Pack on July 12, 2024, the developer explicitly stated that the game would now enter a "maintenance phase" with no new major updates planned — only bug monitoring and occasional small content drops. At the same time, they announced that development on Mecha Knights: Nightmare 2 would begin immediately, directing their creative energy toward the sequel.
This transition was confirmed in November 2025 when the developer formally announced that Mecha Knights: Nightmare 2 is officially in development with a live Steam page, reinforcing that the original game's content development has concluded. Since July 2024, the developer has continued to apply small bug-fix patches (most recently on April 11, 2026), consistent with a maintenance-only posture.
All listed DLC has been released. The developer has been clear and consistent: the original game's content is complete, and the future of the series lies with the sequel.

About the developer
This is a one-man passion-project. Mecha Knights is my attempt to create the Mech game I always wanted to play. I've wanted to combine the elements from games like Armored Core, Front Mission, Earth Defence Force and even Resident Evil, in an apocalyptic war theme that could be seen in anime series such as Muv:Luv and Blue Gender. A game where it's not just you, the player, that is winning the whole war as a one-man army, but rather that you take part in larger operations – where you and your allies fight hundreds of enemies. A game where extensive customization and progression allows you to develop your own Mech, while the game keeps you engaged with the story of the soldiers.Last evaluated Jun 25, 2026
