World War Z

World War Z has been receiving a sustained and consistent stream of major content updates since its 2021 re-release on Steam. Saber Interactive has shipped multiple significant updates across 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026 — including new story campaign episodes, new weapons, weapon perks, game modes, and premium cosmetic DLC packs. In 2025 alone, the developer released three free content updates (Community Challenge in April, Chibi Rush in July, and Heavy Ordnance in September), launched a VR version of the game, and then kicked off 2026 with the major World War Z x The Walking Dead DLC on January 29, 2026 — a full crossover episode featuring three new chapters, four playable characters from AMC's The Walking Dead, and new weapons. The most recent major update, the 'Limitless Strain' update, shipped on June 18, 2026, adding new weapon perks, daily challenges, mutators, and two premium skin packs. A hotfix followed on June 30, 2026. Today's date is August 18, 2026 — less than two months after the last major update. In November 2025, the developer explicitly noted that "since its release back in 2019, the team has continued to push forward, delivering new content and experiences," and nominated the game for Steam's 'Labor of Love' award — a clear signal of ongoing commitment. All 22 DLC items in the store are released, but the historical pattern of new DLC being listed and shipped at regular intervals shows this simply reflects the latest batch being complete, not that support has ended. There is no developer statement indicating plans to wind down content development. Given the consistent multi-update-per-year cadence and the last major release arriving just two months ago, the game is firmly in an ongoing support cycle.
