Evaluation

MeowGun: Hell Denizen graduated from Early Access to its full 1.0 release on January 24, 2026 (Version 22), which delivered the final story level, two new boss fights, a complete bonus episode with 5+1 levels, new multiplayer maps, and a host of other features. At launch, the developer noted they were taking a well-earned break but hinted there "might be some things they'll add after this release." Two substantial post-launch updates followed. Version 23 (February 8, 2026) added a custom difficulty system with granular sliders, a weapon wheel, optional movement modifiers (wall jumps, double jumps), multiplayer fixes, and level improvements. Version 24 (March 18, 2026) added new challenge gameplay modes (Vampire Mode, Claws Mode, Ripper Mode, Sicko Mode), weapon rebalancing, boss health scaling, and extensive level adjustments. The last developer communication was the Version 24 patch on March 18, 2026. That is now over six months ago as of October 1, 2026, with no subsequent posts. The two post-launch updates arrived roughly five weeks apart (January 24 → February 8 → March 18), suggesting a cadence of around four to six weeks between updates. Six months of silence well exceeds that pattern. No future content has been announced, no unreleased DLC exists, and the developer's launch statement about possible post-launch additions was a vague hint rather than a firm commitment — one that appears to have been fulfilled by the two updates that shipped. The game appears to have settled into a complete state.

About this game

In a time of scum and villainy, evil demon overlords and insidious space invaders, a ravaged world cried out for a hero.

A catgirl/half-demon/(who knows???) codenamed MeowMeow is forced to do slave labour. Treated like trash by the demons, she lives a miserable life and all that she wants is another cat. Humanity is on its last legs. She's had enough and decides to fight back!

Start a rebellion and make the demons shake in their boots! Overthrow the evil demon rulers and their minions! Save the animals! Maybe the humans as well if they play nice. Meow a lot. (???)

Features:

  • MeowMeow's journey takes you through 30 levels of demon infested industrial complexes, cityscapes, decayed forgotten places and snowy northern Finland. Plenty of secrets to discover and wandering lost kittens to rescue!

  • A psychedelic/acid/techno/trance SoundTrack!

  • Meow button, silly voicelines, a cutegore aesthetic and tons of dorky pop culture references to experience!

  • 17 weapons with alternate firing modes. You have weapons like automatic Magnum Pistols, a double barreled Shotgun, a rapid fire Machinegun, a powerful Railgun, a guided Missile Launcher and a high tech Plasma Rifle.

  • 3 kinds of throwable bombs and a Power Meow that can blast enemies around!

  • 32 different kinds of enemies ranging from easy cannon fodder Troopers to dangerous Demon Knights, blood thirsty Brute Butchers, strange Dimensional Shamblers and cybernetic Alien Hunters. Boss monster encounter in each of the 5 episodes.

  • Optional gameplay modifiers to fine tune the game's difficulty.

  • There's also a Survival mode where you fight against the ever-growing army of the demons in the deathmatch levels until they overwhelm you.

  • Play up to 4 player local split screen multiplayer in co-op, deathmatch and survival modes. XInput compatible controllers/gamepads needed for split screen multiplayer. There is an auto aim setting that can be used when playing with gamepads.

  • Meowpedia - A big glossary of all the in-game statistics, items, guns, and enemies in the game with tons of informative yet silly descriptions.

  • Optional 256 color palette shader for a more retro look.

  • Nonstop Mäyhem!
