Merchant launched on Steam on October 8, 2018 as a free-to-play RPG/tycoon hybrid. The developer shipped two paid expansions in the game's early life: the Scribe Expansion on December 27, 2018, and Scribe Tier 2 content on October 27, 2019. All 7 DLC items listed on the store are marked as released, with the last one (the Scribe Expansion) having shipped in December 2018. No DLC remains unreleased, and the developer has made no announcements about future expansions or additional content. After the October 2019 major content drop, developer activity shifted to maintenance: a feature patch in May 2022 added sound effects and Spanish localization, another in October 2022 addressed library updates and mod support, and most recently in January 2026 the developer pushed two bug-fix patches (v1.20 and v1.21) addressing save file issues, localization fixes, and minor UI improvements. The January 2026 patches show the developer is still occasionally tending to the game, but these are purely maintenance updates with no new content. The last substantive content release was Scribe Tier 2 in October 2019. With all DLC shipped, no announced future content, and a pattern of only minor maintenance since 2019, the game's content appears complete. The store description explicitly highlights that the game uses DLC (not in-app purchases), and all such DLC has been released.
