Evaluation

Methods: The Detective Competition is a complete visual novel that launched on June 1, 2020. Over the following years it received ongoing updates, companion content, and quality-of-life improvements. The final major piece of connected content — Methods: The Canada Files, the sixth and final case of the Detective Competition — was released on March 5, 2026, as explicitly described in that announcement as the "Sixth & Final case." On April 25, 2026, the developer marked the game's six-year anniversary by stating "With Canada Files finally complete, I was able to focus on finally finishing the artbook." They released a free digital artbook (The Art of Methods), delivered the long-promised Mystery Score Update, and announced that the sequel — Motives: The Ultimate Problem — now has a store page. The developer's own words frame all of this as a wrap-up of the Methods chapter. The most recent post (June 20, 2026) is a routine bug fix, consistent with light maintenance on a finished game. All DLC listed on the store is released: the soundtrack (June 2020) and The Fascinations of Lord Loomy bonus case (April 2022). No unreleased DLC exists. The developer has not announced any further content for Methods: The Detective Competition itself — their focus has shifted to the sequel, Motives: The Ultimate Problem. The content for this game is complete. The artbook release and anniversary wrap-up post on April 25, 2026 represent the final substantive content delivery, making that the date when the game became fully complete.
