Metro Exodus launched in February 2019 and received two story expansions: The Two Colonels (August 20, 2019) and Sam's Story (February 11, 2020), both included in the Season Pass. All three DLC items have shipped. In May 2021, 4A Games released the Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition as a free visual upgrade for existing owners with ray-tracing capable hardware — the last major content addition to the game.
Since then, developer communications on this game's store page have focused on the broader Metro franchise rather than new content for Metro Exodus itself. This includes the January 2023 Exodus SDK release (modding tools for the community), coverage of the separate VR title Metro Awakening (developed by Vertigo Games, released November 2024), and — most recently — the April 2026 announcement and September 2026 launch date confirmation of Metro 2039, the next mainline Metro title coming February 4, 2027.
On October 1, 2026, 4A Games announced a free "Next-Gen Update" coming later in October 2026 for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux (earlier games in the series), framed as a celebration of the franchise reaching 50 million copies sold and a way to welcome players ahead of Metro 2039. A minor patch for Metro Exodus on August 26, 2026 added Deep Silver Account integration — a technical/administrative update, not new content.
Metro Exodus as a standalone product is complete. All announced DLC has shipped, no further paid or free content for this specific game has been announced, and the studio's development focus has moved fully to Metro 2039.
