Evaluation

Mosa Lina launched on October 17, 2023 and has received two major free content updates post-launch. The Collaboration Update on September 13, 2024 added full local and online multiplayer and rebuilt the game's underlying engine. Second Layer on May 28, 2025 doubled the tool count to 48, expanded levels to 360, added 38 new music tracks, and launched the game on Nintendo Switch. This establishes a cadence of roughly one major update every 8–12 months. The Second Layer post from May 28, 2025 explicitly lists several features that were in progress at the time but did not make that release — including Level Editor gamepad controls, proper Steam Input support, .webm clip recording, and the ability to toggle Level Packs during Online Co-op. These represent announced but unshipped work that the developer flagged as coming in a future update. There has been no subsequent post confirming these features have shipped or that development has concluded. As of October 1, 2026, we are approximately 16 months past the Second Layer update. The established cadence between major releases has been 8–12 months, so this is beyond the typical window. However, the in-progress items listed in May 2025 have not been confirmed as delivered or abandoned, and the developer has made no statement indicating development is complete. The original developer (Josh/Stuffed Wombat) handed the project to collaborator Rollin'Barrel in March 2024, and Rollin'Barrel has continued delivering major updates, so the transition did not interrupt development. The silence since May 2025 is notable but the outstanding commitments keep the situation from being clearly resolved.

A Hostile Interpretation Of Immersive Sim Design

This game is a response to the current trend of Immersive Sim design, where every ability is perfectly suited to solve a specific problem in the game. In order to counter this "Lock and Key" philosophy, Mosa Lina is aggressively random.

This does NOT mean that the game has proc-gen. Tools and Levels are handmade, they are just randomly selected and sometimes slightly modified!

It's literally impossible for me to check if all levels are beatable with all combinations of tools. This is what makes it so satisfying: There is no premeditated solution for you to follow. You're forced to get creative.

The game continually spits out randomized problems. It's up to YOU to solve them, because I've never seen them before.

Raw Random

There are no safeguards here. You might get the same item ten times in a row. You might beat the game without seeing it at all. Every playthrough contains only a fraction of the total levels. They're also selected randomly. Nobody knows what'll happen.

It's this reckless abandon of predictability that allows you to stop worrying about "winning" and frees you to enjoy the experimentation. Fun things happen more often if you don't force them.

Physics-driven-Puzzle-platforming

The player, tiles, items and obstacles are all parsed through the same physics-engine. Everything interacts with everything else, allowing you to get really creative and expressive.Sure, all you do is collect fruits to open the portal, but HOW you do that is up to you entirely.

So far, every playtest has shown me that even the most straightforward design is powerless against the endless creativity of players. I sometimes discover new emergent behaviors myself, even after years of playing it

Local & Online Multiplayer

Bring a friend! Whether on the couch next to you or somewhere far away, Mosa Lina can now be enjoyed together! This opens up a lot of possibilities for crazy plays, hilarious fails and all-around creativity!

Level Editor & Steam Workshop

Use the built-in Level Editor to make your own Level Packs, or check out the many Level Packs made by the community! This is the place for those who have mastered the base game and are looking for an extra challenge. Good Luck!!

Thanks for checking out our game! Have a nice day :)
