Evaluation
Naval Hurricane launched on Steam Early Access on November 16, 2022. It remains in Early Access as of today (September 5, 2026) and continues to receive active development from its solo developer, Efril.
Since launch, the game has received at least 8 major content updates (per the post scan summary), including the addition of new historical warships such as the Bellerophon-class dreadnought (December 2, 2023) and the Von der Tann battlecruiser (December 24, 2024), plus numerous feature patches adding systems like weather options, submerged torpedo tubes, a reworked damage control system, and most recently smoke screens (February 17, 2026).
The developer's December 29, 2025 dev blog post about smoke screens explicitly noted that finishing and polishing the feature would be the "primary task as early as January 2026" — confirming active, hands-on development heading into 2026. That feature then shipped in the February 17, 2026 update (Update 0.19a).
The game has maintained a consistent rhythm of updates across its Early Access period, with major content releases roughly every 6–12 months and regular smaller feature and bug-fix patches in between. The developer has not made any statement suggesting that development is winding down, that a 1.0 release is imminent, or that content additions have concluded. No roadmap or timeline for leaving Early Access has been communicated.
Evidence
Update 0.19a shipped, adding smoke screens, significant artillery dispersion rework, and numerous gameplay and UI changes. This is the most recent developer communication and confirms ongoing active development as of February 2026.
Developer dev blog explains smoke screen mechanics in detail and states that finishing and polishing the feature will be their 'primary task as early as January 2026,' explicitly confirming continued development into the new year.
