Evaluation

NavalArt has been in Early Access since June 20, 2018 and remains explicitly marked as such on Steam. The developer is maintaining an exceptionally active update cadence with no indication of slowing down or approaching a 1.0 release. The most recent update, V1.6 (September 22, 2026), is a major shipbuilding system upgrade introducing multi-selection, a Part Grouping System, an overhauled Immersive Firing Arc Editor, and an Adjustable Counterweight. Critically, the same post explicitly previews two further updates in the 1.6.x series: Version 1.6.1, targeting the Custom Parts system and the new Dynamic Submesh Binding feature (allowing parts on turrets to move with them), and Version 1.6.2, which will attempt a new hull and superstructure construction system. The post closes with "See you in October, everyone!" — a direct near-term commitment from the developer. Prior to that, V1.53 (September 9, 2026) introduced a new Port System, Steam Cloud multi-account support, and 13 new weapon parts. V1.52 (September 2, 2026) reworked the damage model and upgraded graphics. V1.51 (August 17, 2026) shipped anti-submarine weapons, dynamic bow wave effects, and a brand-new prologue campaign. V1.5 (July 9, 2026) completely overhauled shell damage mechanics. V1.42 (May 20, 2026) added the multiplayer co-op Operation Mode. The developer's own update notes acknowledge that multiple systems remain works in progress, including the anti-submarine warfare system and the damage model. The store description characterizes the game as an ongoing labor of love, with the developer welcoming feedback "as we continue to perfect the experience." There is no developer statement indicating a 1.0 release is imminent.
Evidence
V1.6 ships major building system upgrades and explicitly previews two more sub-versions: 1.6.1 (Custom Parts overhaul, Dynamic Submesh Binding) and 1.6.2 (new hull/superstructure construction system), with 'See you in October' confirming near-term planned releases.

About this game

-Join our Discord channel to give feedback, download mods and learn about upcoming updates! Let’s make NavalArt more enjoyable, together!

-Building NavalArt is a true labor of love. As an indie dev, my vision was simple but massive: to craft the definitive PC naval sandbox. It's been a long voyage since our 2018 Early Access launch, and I couldn't have weathered it without the phenomenal support of this community. Every piece of your feedback has shaped the hull of this game. Thank you for believing in this project. I'll always welcome your thoughts in the Steam discussions as we continue to perfect the experience.

Game Description:

-NavalArt is a sandbox game that combines design, construction, physics, and combat, offering players a variety of experience in different stages. Players will play as designer, engineer, and commander, respectively, and guide their fleets through the ages of steel and nerve.

Gameplay

-As a player, you will construct your warships in dock, using parts offered by the game or the mod community. Through careful placing and adjusting of parts, with an incredibly high degree of freedom, you can shape your warships to anything you like, from overall hull shapes, to tiny anchor chains.

-Each property is critical to your design, as different armor & weapon layouts will have different effects. Take your unfinished/newly finished ships for trials, and see if it is satisfactory.

-In Quick Battles and Operations, utilize a vast arsenal of weapons spanning from the 19th to the 21st century—including naval guns, torpedoes, carrier-based aircraft, missiles, and more—to annihilate your enemies, complete missions, and claim victory.

-Arm your ship with Anti-Air weapons, including Phalanx CIWS, try to survive in the test scene after several waves of air strikes!

-Experience unique RTS-style Aircraft Carrier gameplay, where altitude is a crucial resource for your warplanes. Configure your squadrons, assign specializations, seize air superiority, and launch devastating aerial strikes against the enemy fleet.

-Walk around your ships as a fellow sailor in Gallery Mode, lineup your fleet and enjoy the parade from your flagship!

-Not in the mood of designing ships? Want more parts to use in the game? Don't forget to visit NavalArt's Steam Workshop to get thousands of warship designs and mods!
