NewCity launched into Early Access on June 12, 2020 and has never left it. The developer, Lone Pine Games, was active through early 2022, shipping regular patches and three major content updates (Tourism system in January 2021, and the Art Update pushed to a test branch in February 2022). In January 2021, the developer published a detailed roadmap targeting five major features before a 1.0 release by end of 2021: a Tourist System, an expanded Economic Model, Full Mass Transit, a Municipality System, and Full Modding Support. The Tourist System shipped in January 2021, and the Art Update arrived in February 2022, but the remaining features — Full Mass Transit, Municipality System, and the deeper Economic Model — have not been announced as shipped. The 1.0 release target of end-2021 passed without comment. In January 2022, the developer acknowledged falling behind and stated they were cutting scope to push the game toward 1.0, signaling continued intent. The last developer communication of any kind was the February 28, 2022 art update patch notes. There have been no posts, patches, announcements, or developer statements since that date — a silence spanning over four years. With outstanding 1.0 promises unfulfilled and no word from the developer since February 28, 2022, it is not possible to confirm whether development is continuing or has been quietly abandoned.
