Nidhogg 2

Nidhogg 2 launched on August 15, 2017 and received a handful of post-launch content updates: a new level ("PAX Place") in September 2017, localization and matchmaking improvements in November 2017, and most recently two new levels ("Train" and "Office") plus new costumes in September 2021. That September 2021 update is the last piece of new content the developer has shipped for the game. Since then, Messhof's attention has clearly shifted to their next project. On June 11, 2026, they posted to the Nidhogg 2 Steam page to announce a brand-new game called Blood Dungeon, which was revealed at Summer Games Fest 2026 and already has a playable demo. This announcement, made on the Nidhogg 2 page, is a studio news post rather than anything related to Nidhogg 2 itself — it signals that Messhof is now focused on a new title rather than continuing development of this one. There are no unreleased DLC entries, no roadmap, and no developer statements promising future content for Nidhogg 2. The update history, combined with the studio's pivot to a new game, paints a picture of a game that has reached the end of its content lifecycle. Someone waiting for all content to ship can consider the game complete as of the September 2021 update.
