Evaluation

Operation: Outbreak launched as a free-to-play zombie FPS on December 20, 2025, created by a solo developer as a student exam project. Despite its origins as a short game, the developer has been actively supporting it post-launch: Patch 1.0.1 shipped on December 28, 2025, Patch 1.0.2 on January 9, 2026, and a substantial Patch 1.1 on February 2, 2026 adding controller support, new models, and beginning the replacement of AI-generated voice-overs with professional audio. On January 27, 2026, the developer announced The Tenement — a story-driven DLC featuring a new playable character and a decaying tenement building environment — targeting a February 2026 release. This DLC is listed on the store but remains unreleased with no confirmed date. The developer's January 1, 2026 New Year post also described 2026 as an exciting year with new updates and ambitious projects ahead. However, the last official communication from DREADMITH Games was the Patch 1.1 notes on February 2, 2026. As of June 15, 2026, more than four months have passed with no updates, no explanation for the missed February DLC target, and no new posts of any kind. The promised Tenement DLC has not shipped and there is no word on its status, making the current state of development unclear.

About this game

❗Important Notice❗

This is a short 10–20 minute game, developed solo in a few weeks as a student exam project for a game development course. Due to budget limitations, AI was used for the voice-over. Please keep this in mind when playing and reviewing! Have fun!

After your squad’s vehicle is destroyed during a routine patrol in the war-torn streets of Karzekistan, you wake up as the sole survivor. As Nomad, you must navigate a city overrun by the undead to reach the extraction point on the far side. Comms are down, but through the radio, Sentinel, your squad’s coordinator, guides you toward survival: the city is crawling with fast, relentless zombies, and the only safe passage may be through the dark, narrow underground tunnels.

Equipped with only a pistol, you’ll face tense, survival-focused combat. Resources are scarce. Ammunition, healing items, and night vision are limited, making every shot and every decision crucial. Encountering large hordes of the undead can quickly turn fatal, forcing you to think strategically as you push forward through the decaying urban landscape.

The environment is cinematic and immersive: derelict buildings, abandoned streets, and flickering lights set the stage for relentless suspense. The tunnels below are tight, dark, and suffocating, while the city above teems with threats, culminating in a final, desperate push across a zombie-infested bridge to reach the landing zone where your extraction awaits.

Built in Unreal Engine 5, this short but intense 10–20 minute FPS horror experience blends adrenaline-pumping action with survival horror, delivering a cinematic journey through a city teetering on the edge of chaos. Originally developed as a final exam project by DREADMITH Games, this game challenges your nerves, precision, and tactical thinking. Will you survive, or become another victim of the outbreak in Karzekistan?
