PAYDAY 3 launched on September 21, 2023 and has been in sustained, active development ever since. The game has received a consistent cadence of major updates throughout its post-launch life — four named content chapters across 2023–2024, additional standalone heists into 2025 and 2026, a full skill system overhaul in December 2025, a new Crimebonds progression system in June 2026, and a migration to Unreal Engine 5 delivered today, August 25, 2026 (Update 3.8). The most significant recent communication came on August 20, 2026, when Starbreeze published "The Future of PAYDAY with Paul - Episode 4," detailing what's coming in both August and September. The August portion — the Unreal Engine 5 upgrade and Cook Off rework — has now shipped as of today. The September update is described as "jam-packed" and will include a Campaign Mode featuring a completely rewritten storyline, Weapon Perks, a Shooting Range, enemy improvements, and a new paid Crimebond Collection. Alongside this, the developer made a structural commitment: all paid heists, including all future heists, will be available to every player as part of the base game starting from the September update. Paid heist DLCs were officially delisted from all storefronts today (August 25, 2026) as part of this transition.
