Evaluation

Plasma launched into Early Access on March 30, 2023 and exited Early Access on September 13, 2023, at which point the developers (Patrick and Marco of Dry Cactus) simultaneously announced an indefinite development hiatus due to severe financial losses — over $650,000 spent against approximately $86,000 in revenue. They made clear that new content, features, and bug fixes would cease, though they held out hope that development might resume if the game found a larger audience. Development did briefly resume: on February 8, 2024, the two co-founders announced they were picking work back up, and on February 20, 2024, they shipped update 0.4.0.0 with a number of feature improvements. However, on May 22, 2024, the developers posted a definitive final message explaining that Plasma had "totally failed as a commercial project" and that they had made "the hard decision to no longer support development of the game." As of May 30, 2024, the game was made free-to-play in hopes that more people could enjoy it. The developers explicitly thanked the community and wished players well on their "next adventure" — language indicating the team has moved on entirely. No further developer communications have been posted since May 22, 2024. No DLC, roadmap, or future content of any kind has been announced. The game is complete in its current state, with development permanently concluded as of the May 2024 announcement.
