Evaluation

Play With Gilbert - A Small Tail is a free standalone sampler for the full game "Play With Gilbert - Remake." It launched on May 5, 2021 as a deliberately content-limited demo/sampler, featuring two recreated levels from the original game. The developer, Joure Visser, was transparent from the start that this title exists to let players try the experience before purchasing the full paid game. After launch, the developer shipped a feature update on September 9, 2021 (engine upgrade and Fish-Run mini-game additions) and a small follow-up patch on September 12, 2021. A Halloween seasonal event was noted on October 30, 2021, and a minor hot-fix was released on April 19, 2022. That April 2022 hot-fix is the last recorded developer communication for this specific title. The developer's post-launch communications focused primarily on other projects in the Gilbert franchise — specifically the full "Play With Gilbert - Remake," a standalone Halloween spinoff called "Spookity Hollow," and a 2D platformer called "Whiskered Away." There is no mention of planned future content additions specifically for A Small Tail, no unreleased DLC, and no roadmap targeting this sampler title. The October 2021 post mentioned new content being worked on for the broader franchise but not for this free sampler specifically. Given that this title is explicitly a free sampler/demo rather than a standalone product with its own content roadmap, and that the developer has had no communication about it since April 2022, it is best understood as a complete, finished promotional title. The last developer activity on this title dates to April 19, 2022.
