Prison Simulator launched on November 4, 2021 and has received a steady stream of updates and DLC since then. In 2025, the developer released two cosmetic skin packs (March and November 2025), a free Zombie Mode update (April 2025), and a paid Power Wash DLC (May 2025). In March 2026, a companion VR title launched alongside a bundle that brings the original game together with all its additional content. An optimization patch dropped on May 19, 2026, improving performance and Steam Deck compatibility, and another small update with free cosmetic skins arrived on April 14, 2026. In April 2025, the developer explicitly stated: "We're not stopping! We're continuing to develop Prison Simulator with new features, updates, and maybe some surprising additions." This is a direct commitment to ongoing development. No announcement of development concluding has been made. All four DLC entries are released, but the sustained update cadence and the developer's own words confirm the game is still actively maintained and receiving new content.
