Professional Fishing launched on November 30, 2018 as a free-to-play fishing simulator and received a steady stream of updates through early 2019, including a major new map (Bass Marshland) added on January 26, 2019, interface overhauls, and new fish species. In April 2020, the developer posted a roadmap promising a gameplay and mechanics rework, indicating continued investment in the game.
However, the developer's focus appears to have shifted decisively toward successor titles. In August 2022, they announced Ultimate Fishing Simulator 2 (a separate game), and by July 2023 they were promoting Professional Fishing 2 — including releasing a free demo for it on July 12, 2023.
