Evaluation

Project Explore launched as version 1.0 on August 10, 2017. In the 1.0 release announcement, the developer (Seabass) stated that the release "won't be the last update" and that continued improvements were contingent on player engagement. A handful of feature patches followed in the months after launch. The last known update to the game was on April 6, 2018, when Seabass posted about returning to Project Explore during a break between projects — describing it as a "hobby project" he was revisiting. Crucially, on April 13, 2019, Seabass posted directly on the Project Explore store page to announce the launch of his new game, Duke of Defense, explaining that he had spent about a year working on it in silence. This announcement, made on the Project Explore page, signals that his development focus had fully shifted to new projects. No updates to Project Explore have been posted since April 2018, and no future content, roadmap, or ongoing development for the game has been communicated at any point after that. The only DLC — an OST — was released in 2015 and there are no unreleased DLC entries. The game appears to have concluded its update cycle in early 2018, with the developer having moved on to other titles.

About this game

Project Explore is a 2D sandbox survival game developed with only the best in mind. The simple yet responsive UI is there to help the player, not hinder them. It has a high-functioning inventory system- the items can have their own unique traits through metadata system. The game’s multiplayer is light-weight and has very minimal hardware requirements. With that said, server hosting is extremely optimized. The game comes with up-to-date patch notes and documentation to help with server configuration, mod creation/support, and everything in-between.

Modding

One of our priorities is mod development. We are huge fans of Feed The Beast (Minecraft Mod Pack Distributors) and similar teams. Having the freedom to be a fruit salad chef, a weapon smith, or a mercenary. That's what it's about. We are constantly encouraging users to create new mods and help us to expand what is possible with the game engine.

As a user you can install mods very easily. Simply drag mods into the mod folder and you've added a mod to your game! They work in multiplayer and singleplayer without any extra hassle. You can easily create and share them with friends.

Developer Quote

"I think every player deserves a voice and the direction of the game should be based on community feedback, and ideas. I've followed this idea since the beginning of the games development and so far it has helped the game become something I could not have ever imagined." -Seabass
