Evaluation
Pure Chess Grandmaster Edition launched on September 9, 2016 as a complete chess game featuring 9 chess sets and 6 locations. Ripstone followed up with two cosmetic DLC packs: the Steampunk Game Pack on November 16, 2016, and the Sci-Fi Game Pack on January 25, 2017. Both DLC packs are fully released and no unreleased DLC remains on the store listing. After the Sci-Fi pack launched in January 2017, Ripstone issued no further updates, announcements, or developer posts related to Pure Chess Grandmaster Edition — the last developer communication directly about this game was a bug fix post from September 16, 2016. The studio's subsequent chess-related activity has been focused entirely on a new product, Chess Infinity, which launched on Steam on March 4, 2025. There are no outstanding commitments or announced future content for Pure Chess Grandmaster Edition, and the developer's attention has clearly moved on. The game is content-complete as of the Sci-Fi Game Pack release on January 25, 2017.
Evidence
Sci-Fi Game Pack released — the second and final DLC for the game. Both DLC entries in the store listing are marked as released with no unreleased items remaining.
Ripstone announced and launched Chess Infinity, a separate chess game on Steam — indicating the studio has moved on to a successor product rather than continuing development of Pure Chess Grandmaster Edition.
