Purrgatory

Purrgatory is a free-to-play visual novel that launched on August 22, 2021 as a complete, self-contained experience. Post-launch activity consisted entirely of bug fixes (September and October 2021) and a series of community-contributed fan translations that gradually expanded the game's language support over the following years. On February 28, 2026, developer Niv posted a significant update announcing Norwegian and Russian translations — bringing the total to ten languages — and explicitly stated this was "most likely its last" language addition. Niv announced the closure of the fan translation Discord server in order to focus on their new game, Evenfall, and confirmed they would not be accepting new translators. This is a clear statement that Purrgatory's development is winding down to a close. Niv had already announced Evenfall as their next project on July 20, 2025, and on March 13, 2026, released a playable demo for Evenfall on Steam. The developer's attention has fully shifted to this new project. The only DLC ever released was the soundtrack, which shipped the day after launch. No additional content was ever planned or announced for the game itself. The store description presents Purrgatory as a finished, scoped experience (3-5 hours, 7 characters, 80+ locations). With the developer explicitly closing out translation support and moving on, the game is complete.
