Evaluation
Quest for the Golden Candelabra launched on May 12, 2023 as a compact, self-contained tactics game — approximately 40 minutes long with five encounters and four pre-built characters. The store description explicitly frames it as a complete experience and describes the follow-up game, Dawnsbury Days, as the place to go for more content, noting that "Dawnsbury Days contains the full story that's contained in this game."
After launch, the developer released several feature and bug-fix patches in the weeks surrounding release (April–May 2023), then shifted focus entirely to the sequel. All subsequent news posts from this game's Steam page are announcements about Dawnsbury Days, which launched on March 8, 2024. There are no unreleased DLC listings, no roadmap for this game, and no developer statements suggesting additional content is planned for Quest for the Golden Candelabra itself.
The game launched as a finished, intentionally limited product and was always positioned as a preview or precursor to the larger Dawnsbury Days. With the sequel now released and the developer's own store description directing players there for more content, Quest for the Golden Candelabra is complete as originally designed. Its completion date aligns with its release date of May 12, 2023.

About this game
Quest for the Golden Candelabra is a 2D turn-based tactics game based on the rules of PF2E, the second edition of a powerful tabletop OGL ruleset. You lead a group of four colorful characters through a series of encounters, fighting against monsters, acquiring loot and eventually -- hopefully -- recovering the ancient artifact that's the object of your quest.
For an experienced player of tabletop roleplaying games, the entire game takes about 40 minutes to play through, from beginning to end.
You can preview the effects and success probability of all actions before you commit and weigh your options. All combat encounters are balanced but difficult: To win the game reliably and consistently, you will need to make use of almost all of your options.
For an experienced player of tabletop roleplaying games, the entire game takes about 40 minutes to play through, from beginning to end.
- Five difficult encounters in varied locations against varied monsters
- Four interesting characters to play as (an honorable orc fighter, a silent rogue, a well-spoken sorcerer, and an excitable cleric)
- A complex OGL-based rule system which makes for strong strategic gameplay
Cut straight into the gameplay
This game is a cinematic experience, where you fight one combat encounter after another, and these fights are interspersed only with (voiced!) cinematic cutscenes. The game doesn't waste your time: animations are lightning fast, cutscenes skippable, and you can really focus on the engaging combat experience.Powerful rule system
Each turn, you get three actions to spend on moving, attacking, casting spells, taking combat maneuvers, drinking potions and defensive or other actions. You can preview the effects and success probability of all actions before you commit and weigh your options. All combat encounters are balanced but difficult: To win the game reliably and consistently, you will need to make use of almost all of your options.
Story of the Dawnsbury Four
Experience the first steps of an up-and-coming party of young adventurers as they take on their first quest and attempt to recover an artifact that has once protected their beloved home town.A taste of Dawnsbury Days
This game is greatly expanded upon in the follow-up game, Dawnsbury Days, which contains the content from Quest for the Golden Candelabra but also allows you to create and customize your own characters, enhances art and rules fidelity and otherwise greatly improves upon this game, and most importantly, adds additional combat encounters and additional character levels. You don't need to play this game first. Dawnsbury Days contains the full story that's contained in this game.Last evaluated Jun 21, 2026
