Evaluation

Rainswept launched on February 1, 2019 as a complete, self-contained narrative mystery game. In the weeks following launch, the developer (a solo developer, Armaan) shipped several feature patches — adding a reworked control scheme, full gamepad support, and various bug fixes — all before May 2019. The only two DLC items are a soundtrack (released February 1, 2019) and an artbook (released May 6, 2019), both of which are already available. There are no unreleased DLC entries on the store. In February 2023, on the game's fourth anniversary, the developer posted that he had "new exciting content in the works" for Frostwood Interactive — however, this was followed just two months later by the April 2023 launch of a brand-new game called Unwording. Given the timeline, the "new exciting content" referenced in the February 2023 post almost certainly referred to Unwording, which the developer was already deep into developing. There are no subsequent posts hinting at additional content specifically for Rainswept, and the developer has made no announcements of expansions, DLC, or updates to Rainswept since. Frostwood Interactive's post-launch attention has moved entirely to the new title. Rainswept appears to have shipped as a complete story-driven experience with no planned post-launch content cycle beyond the artbook and soundtrack. The game is complete.

About this game

Detective Michael Stone arrives in the small town of Pineview to assist the local police force with a seemingly simple case - A couple is found dead in their kitchen. The locals believe it to be a case of murder-suicide, their speculation fueled by rumors of the turbulent nature of the couple's relationship.

Is it just small-town gossip, or is there some truth to the rumors?

Help Detective Stone, assisted by the driven and empathetic Amy Blunt, discover the truth behind Chris and Diane's story. But be warned: the further he pursues the case, the more his own past shall come back to haunt him. And the closer his sanity will be pushed to the edge.

  • Taking inspiration from works like Twin Peaks, Deadly Premonition, and Night in the Woods, Rainswept is a character-driven drama that balances tragedy and melancholy with humor and beauty to deliver a life-affirming, cathartic experience.

    • As Detective Stone, explore the beautiful town of Pineview, talk to the many locals, interview suspects, dig through the victims' pasts and try to piece together the story behind Chris and Diane's brutal deaths.

    • Also play as Chris and experience his story with Diane - joining them in key moments of their lives together as they meet for the first time, get to know each other, and fall in love.

    Featuring:

    • An emotionally captivating story set in an immersive and atmospheric game world

    • A wide cast of characters with deep histories, meaningful motivations, and distinct personalities

    • A moving original soundtrack by Micamic (Downfall, The Cat Lady, Lorelai)

    • Pine trees, coffee, and rain. Lots of rain.
