Evaluation
Retrowave 2 launched out of Early Access on August 3, 2026, graduating to its 1.0 release. The developer published a detailed post on August 6, 2026 outlining what was included in version 1.0 — including 124 new achievements, four new maps, photo mode, Steam Cloud support, and the new Lazercity: Neon Vice DLC — but was also candid that the game is not completely finished. Specifically, the developer noted that the Nightcall II map (created as a tribute to musician Kavinsky) is still marked "Coming Soon" and remains unreleased. They also stated intentions to add further UI polish, additional improvements and content to the Lazercity DLC, and potentially other additions. Up to four new achievements are expected to arrive alongside Nightcall II, after which the developer described those as definitively the final achievements.
Prior to the 1.0 release, the game had a strong update history during Early Access: a new Miami map in January 2025, three new worlds in July 2025, Halloween-themed content in October 2025, and a Christmas map in November 2025. All three DLC items currently listed — a currency pack, a soundtrack, and the Lazercity: Neon Vice expansion — have shipped. The developer's communication on August 6, 2026 is the most recent and most authoritative statement about the game's status, and it clearly indicates that further content is still in progress.
Evidence
Developer's 1.0 launch post explicitly states the game is 'not completely finished yet,' with the Nightcall II map still marked Coming Soon, additional Lazercity DLC content planned, UI polish remaining, and up to four new achievements expected alongside the Nightcall II release.
Lazercity: Neon Vice DLC released on August 3, 2026. The developer noted in the launch post that improvements and additional content for this DLC may be added in the future.
