Evaluation
Return to Shironagasu Island launched on March 2, 2020, and its English version followed on October 31, 2020. Since then the developer has released a voice drama DLC on March 25, 2023, a vocal song collection on August 4, 2023, and a major update on March 31, 2025 that added Japanese voice acting across all language versions. Updates are still arriving: version 1.0.36, released October 10, 2026, adds full Steam Deck controller support. The developer also announced a separate sequel, Distant Circular World, on April 5, 2026. Because the developer continues to ship feature and quality updates to this game, it is treated as still in ongoing development rather than finished. The most recent work focuses on platform and interface improvements rather than named new story content, so this assessment carries lower confidence.
Evidence
Major update added Japanese voice acting across all language versions, new scenes, and promotional videos in the CG library.
Version 1.0.36 adds full Steam Deck controller support along with display and interface fixes; the developer thanks players for continued support.
