Evaluation

SIMULACRA launched on October 26, 2017 as a self-contained narrative horror game. The store description presents it as a complete experience with a defined story, five possible endings, and no mention of post-launch content. Following its release, the developer shipped two quality-of-life patches in December 2017 and June 2018, adding features like subtitles, a speedrun mode, and Mac support — but no new story content for the base game. Post-launch developer activity has focused entirely on new titles in the series rather than expanding the original SIMULACRA. In November 2018, Kaigan Games announced SIMULACRA: Pipe Dreams, a free standalone spin-off. In January 2020, SIMULACRA 2 launched as a separate sequel. In March 2021, Doctor Who: The Lonely Assassins released as another standalone entry. In October 2022, SIMULACRA 3 launched, completing a trilogy — and a bundle containing all three SIMULACRA games was released alongside it. The original SIMULACRA has received no content updates since mid-2018, and no developer communication has suggested any additional content is planned for it. The game was clearly designed and shipped as a complete, standalone product, and the developer's energy has been directed entirely toward building out the broader series with new releases.

About this game

From the creators of Sara is Missing, SIMULACRA is a spiritual sequel to the highly acclaimed "found phone" horror game.

You found the lost phone of a woman named Anna. In it, you see a desperate cry for help in the form of a video message. The phone behaves strangely as you dive deeper into it. You talk to her friends and they have no idea where she is. Her texts, emails and photo gallery provides fragments of information. It's up to you to piece it together.

Recover lost files, piece back corrupted data, and retrace her final steps. Find her before it's too late.

SIMULACRA is an immersive narrative thriller using the interface of a mobile phone. Like all phones, you have messages, emails, gallery and all kinds of apps to look through. With a strong focus on realism, the game's characters are played by live actors and shot at real locations. Dive into Anna's life as you look at her private photos, go through her dating app or view her personal video logs.
