Revenge of the Mage is still labeled Early Access on Steam, and the store listing has not changed to reflect a 1.0 launch. The developer scheduled the full Version 1.0 release for October 12, 2026, which is the date of this assessment. The most recent developer post, dated October 9, 2026, is a public test branch update (v0.0.1.283) that lets players try the Book Station feature. The roadmap published on August 11, 2026 lists the Blood Moon Realm, the Final Boss Realm, two new unlockable mages (Umbral Mage and Blood Mage), Elite and Champion enemy tiers, spell books, and Twitch integration, and the developer said the roadmap does not cover everything they are working on. The September 18, 2026 major update delivered Cloud Town, which had been on the roadmap, along with Deck Building, dozens of new cards and equipment pieces, and new Perma Upgrades. Mage-specific cards, equipment, and Perma Upgrades, the complete Book System, and additional content were held back for Version 1.0. The August 11, 2026 update also added a Pirate Multiverse, Japanese language support, and gold chests. The game's first major free update, Unleash The Storm, shipped on March 14, 2025.

You have a variety of Ancestors to choose from, each with different elemental powers. You will unlock even more as you play the game, providing new styles so you can find your favorite. After all, what’s the point in the destruction of hordes if not fun?

Diverse Playthroughs

With 30+ unique cards - we are adding more- to be offered when you level up, each of which can be upgraded several times for greater effect, every playthrough will be different. Did we mention that we’re adding even more cards?

Revenge of the Mage aims to take the best parts of the action roguelites and shooters: A vast array of powers and challenges to choose from and legions of enemies so you can enjoy that power! The more you play, the more you unlock and the harder challenges you can take on.
