River City Ransom: Underground launched on February 27, 2017 and received consistent post-launch support through 2018, including gameplay patches, quality-of-life improvements, a holiday content update (November 2017), and a final major content drop on May 1, 2018 (Update #15 "Retrosity"), which added visual filters, new gameplay elements, a new unlockable character, and an official soundtrack release. No further content updates were announced or delivered after May 2018, and the developer made no roadmap commitments beyond that point.
On December 30, 2025, the developer posted an official update confirming that the game would be removed from sale on Steam due to the expiration of a licensing agreement. The game is no longer purchasable. Existing owners can still access it through their Steam Library, but new purchases are not possible. The developer did not announce any plans for re-release or further content.
