Serum: Toxic Survival entered Steam Early Access on May 23, 2024 with a published roadmap outlining the path to a 1.0 release. That roadmap committed to several major additions beyond the launch content: a new Canyon biome, and co-op multiplayer for up to 4 players. Through September 2024, the developer shipped a series of patches — most notably Patch 6 in September 2024, which added achievements, difficulty customization, and combat traps — but the big-ticket roadmap items (Canyon biome, co-op) remained undelivered.
After Patch 6, developer communication went silent for over seven months. On May 2, 2025, the studio broke its silence with a post acknowledging the gap, citing unspecified challenges they had to navigate. In that same post, they confirmed that a multiplayer update was actively in development and expected to release "later this year" (i.e., before the end of 2025). They also rebranded the game to Serum: Toxic Survival to signal that the project was continuing.
However, since that May 2, 2025 post, there have been no further updates — no patch notes, no announcements, no progress reports — through today, June 23, 2026. The multiplayer update that was promised for 2025 has not shipped, and the developer has not explained the delay or given any new timeline. This pattern mirrors the earlier period of silence that the developer themselves acknowledged as a problem, and it raises real questions about whether development is actively continuing.
