Shark Dating Simulator XL+ has been in Early Access since its August 14, 2017 launch and remains there today. The game's own store description acknowledges it is unfinished, noting it currently has one story with more planned. The developer, Catfood McFly, was reasonably active through 2021, shipping a Halloween Special on November 1, 2021 and running a crowdfunder that reached 87% of its £3,000 goal. In a November 30, 2021 post — the last official communication from the developer — they outlined a clear roadmap: release a Christmas-themed special in December 2021, use that to exit Early Access, then begin rolling out full story chapters starting in early 2022 at a pace of one every couple of months. None of those plans appear to have been executed. There have been no developer posts, patch notes, or updates of any kind since November 30, 2021. The promised Christmas 2021 special never shipped, the game never left Early Access, and the "proper chapters" roadmap has seen no follow-through. A 2019 post had similarly described a full rewrite and expanded cast of shark girl routes — suggesting a long history of ambitious plans followed by extended quiet periods. The developer has a documented pattern of long gaps between activity (there was a roughly two-year silence between 2017 and 2019, and another before the 2021 burst of activity), so a return is not impossible. However, given that the last communication was on November 30, 2021 and specific deliverables with concrete timelines were promised but not delivered, the current status of development is genuinely uncertain.
