Evaluation

Short Circuit VR entered Steam Early Access on November 19, 2018. The developer shipped one notable update on December 28, 2018 (version 0.3, adding Oculus Rift support and UI improvements), but that same post announced a significant strategic pivot: the team concluded that a desktop version should take priority over the VR product, and explicitly stated they would "probably won't update a new version of Short Circuit VR in the near future." That December 28, 2018 post is the last developer communication specifically about Short Circuit VR. In June and July 2022, the developer posted about a Kickstarter campaign for a separate but related product called "Shortcuit" — a desktop electronics and Arduino programming game with VR support as a stretch goal. These posts do not indicate any renewed development work on Short Circuit VR itself. The game remains in Early Access as of today (June 26, 2026), with no 1.0 release announced and no developer updates in over seven years. The developer's own December 2018 statement made clear that VR development was being deprioritized, and nothing since has reversed that position.
Evidence
Developer released update 0.3 but announced a pivot away from VR development, stating they 'probably won't update a new version of Short Circuit VR in the near future' in favor of a desktop version.

About this game

Short Circuit VR is an electronics lab simulator in Virtual Reality.

You can build your own electronic circuits with the components provided, learn basic electronics by completing challenges and just have fun while experimenting and making awesome projects!

For who is this game intended?
While Short Circuit VR can be used as a learning tool for young and old, it can be used by hobbyists and anyone who wants to experiment and build things with electronic components.

Main features

Spawn components
The player can spawn electronic components to build custom circuits. Here’s a list of components currently available:
  • Wires
  • Batteries (1.5V, 3V, 9V)
  • Resistors
  • Breadboard
  • Diode
  • LEDs (red, green, blue)
  • Slide switch
  • Pushbutton
  • Potentiometers
  • 7 Segment display (common cathode)
  • Photoresistor
  • Buzzers
  • DC motor
  • Protoboard

Receive feedback

Get information about circuit components values (voltage, current, voltage drop, resistance, …) when hovering over them with the controller. Easily detect errors in your circuit as you’ll get a warning when doing something wrong (short circuit, open circuit, too much current, …).

Complete challenges

The game includes several challenges to learn how to work with the basic components. Players will get a challenge description, a circuit diagram and some extra information to help them get started.

Whiteboard

Here you can find helpful information to complete the challenges.

Save your work

Short Circuit VR includes 10 save slots where you can save your progress in. It also gives you the ability to load save files from other users or save files downloaded from our website.

Import custom models

Users can import their own custom 3D models (.obj files) with a material. These models can be imported during gameplay to customise your projects.
