Sorcerer King: Rivals launched on September 22, 2016 and received a series of post-launch updates. The game's content history includes three feature patches: v2.1 on March 9, 2017 (which added a whole new campaign), v2.2 on September 19, 2017 (new units and balance changes), and v2.3 on October 3, 2018 (Dwarf Lord improvements and high-DPI display support). That October 2018 patch is the last developer communication specific to this game.
The developer's attention has since shifted entirely to Elemental: Reforged — a new standalone remaster that combines Sorcerer King and its sister games into a unified 64-bit successor. Stardock announced Elemental: Reforged in July 2025, launched it into Early Access on October 23, 2025, and released it as a full 1.0 product on March 17, 2026. The CEO explicitly described Elemental: Reforged as "the full culmination of Stardock achieving the original vision set out for the Elemental franchise," positioning it as the definitive successor to Sorcerer King and its predecessors. No further updates, DLC, or content of any kind have been announced or hinted at for Sorcerer King: Rivals itself. The game is still purchasable on Steam but has been effectively superseded by Elemental: Reforged. With no outstanding commitments and a development pattern that clearly concluded years ago, Sorcerer King: Rivals is a complete, finished product.

About this game
Never the same game twice
You have risen to lead an up and coming civilization in magical land of Elemental. Your village lives in the shadow of one of the precious shards of magic. It also possesses something unique in all the world -- the Forge of the Overlord. This powerful artifact allows its user to craft magical items and equipment.Armed with the Forge of the Overlord, your people look to you to challenge the malevolent Sorcerer King, a being who has devastated the land and filled it with ruins and minions.
Unknownst to him, you have learned the Spell of Ascension that will allow you to channel the magic of the shards and enable you to ascend to a being of nearly unlimited power who can set the world free (or destroy it).
But you are not alone. Other civilizations are rising while the Sorcerer King schemes in his distant fortress. They too have their own plans…
