Evaluation

Space Scavenger launched into Early Access on June 12, 2020 and reached its full 1.0 release on August 20, 2021. In the 1.0 launch post, developer Jonas explicitly stated: "Perhaps it is not expected that we will add new game modes or any other huge changes. We are happy where we are at with this, we feel it's a great complete diverse game!" This was a clear signal that the game had reached its intended final state. Following 1.0, one additional major content update shipped on November 22, 2021 — the Creative Mode Update, which added a free-build mode, two new weapon modules, and a new enemy. This appears to be the last substantial content addition to the game. On December 20, 2023, the developer announced Space Scavenger 2: Galactic Gauntlet, confirming that the studio's future efforts are directed toward the sequel rather than the original game. On October 7, 2025, a small patch (1.2) was released to fix a Unity security vulnerability. The developer noted they also included a weapon module that had been sitting finished for three years, and added a menu notification linking to the sequel. The post closes with "See you in the sequel!" — reinforcing that the original game is complete and the developer's focus has fully shifted to Space Scavenger 2. The game is a finished product. No further content has been announced, and the developer has consistently communicated — both at 1.0 launch and in the October 2025 patch — that the original game's development journey is over.

About this game

Build and design as you go

Design, build and command unique spaceships through mysterious alien infested galaxies while scavenging for spaceship parts in a desperate attempt at finding what you once called home.

Roguelike elements

Space Scavenger combines roguelike elements such as permadeath and procedurally generated levels with a streamlined on-the-fly spaceship building mechanic. Improve and tweak the fighting capabilities and layout of your spaceship as you progress through the increasingly harsh levels.

Improve and adapt

While scavenging for spaceship parts and exploring strange planets you will come across weapons, defensive and utility modules, all with unique capabilities. Carefully watch your ammunition and energy levels to stay ready for an incoming battle. Your ability to adapt and improve the layout of your ship while finding new parts will be the difference between survival and certain death.

Online daily challenge

Put your ingenuity to the test by competing in the online daily challenge where players try to achieve the best score of the day with the same prerequisites. Compare your result to others and view their spaceship designs in the daily challenge lobby.
