Spectre Divide launched on September 3, 2024 as a free-to-play tactical shooter. On March 12, 2025, Mountaintop Studios published an open letter to players announcing that the game's Season 1 launch had not generated enough revenue to sustain the studio, that all funding had been exhausted, and that Mountaintop would be closing at the end of that week. The studio confirmed it had explored every avenue to continue — publisher deals, additional investment, and acquisition — without success. On April 15, 2025, the team posted a final notice confirming the servers would shut down on April 17, 2025 at 12:00 PM PT. The game's store page now displays a shutdown notice and confirms it is expected to have gone offline on April 17, 2025. The game is no longer available for purchase. Mountaintop Studios has closed.
