This Steam listing is for the original Splitgate (App ID 677620), but the developer news attached to this page tells the broader story of how the game has evolved. The original Splitgate received its final major update on September 16, 2022, when 1047 Games explicitly stated development was ending so the team could focus on a sequel. In August 2025, the original game's dedicated servers were shut down and replaced with peer-to-peer hosting, with all cosmetics unlocked for free — effectively preserving the game in a community-maintained state rather than an actively developed one.
However, the successor game — initially called Splitgate 2, later relaunched as SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded — launched on December 17, 2025 (on its own separate Steam page, App ID 2918300). This new game operates as a live service with seasonal content: Season 1 shipped at launch with a Battle Pass and new content, and Season 2 launched on March 27, 2026 with new maps, a new power weapon, a new game mode (Races), new Arena Royale content (Duos, Inferno biome), and a new Battle Pass with over 100 items. The Season 2 post also promises more limited-time events with unique rewards throughout the season, confirming the live-service structure is ongoing.
