Star of Providence

Star of Providence launched on June 7, 2017 as a top-down action shooter. The developer, Team D-13, has continued to support and expand it over the years. The first major expansion, Relics of the Past, shipped on December 25, 2019 and added two new floors, new enemies, bosses, weapons, and a looping mechanic. That DLC was subsequently bundled into the base game at no extra charge, as reflected in the current store description. After a roughly five-year development period, the second major content update — Into Oblivion — launched on February 20, 2025. It brought a new playable character, five new enemies, new bosses, 13 unique weapons, 20 new cartridges, a reworked loop mechanic, a new Gauntlet sub-branch, and hundreds of new room layouts. The developer acknowledged the long wait in the release announcement and noted that active work had been continuing quietly throughout that period. Since Into Oblivion shipped, Team D-13 has remained actively engaged: a substantial feature patch landed in May 2026 (covering weapon reworks, new animations, localization improvements, and balance changes), followed by a minor fix update on May 24–25, 2026, and another notable feature and balance patch on June 7, 2026 — the game's ninth anniversary. No specific future content has been announced, but the developer has not signaled that development is complete, and the cadence of updates since February 2025 shows consistent, ongoing work.
