Evaluation

Starground is a top-down automation dungeon crawler that entered Steam Early Access on August 19, 2024, with explicit plans to reach a full 1.0 release. The developer, Big Boy Games, shipped major content updates at a brisk pace — roughly every 2–3 months — delivering 5 numbered major updates (v0.11 through v0.15) and a follow-up feature update (v0.15.1) between February 2025 and February 2026. The developer's intentions for completing the game are well-documented. A roadmap published on December 19, 2024 laid out updates through version 1.0, including a final boss, story conclusion, and new automation content. On August 20, 2025, marking the game's one-year anniversary, the developer stated they "can't wait to get working on what content we still have planned," and specifically promised "another 3 planets, a whole load of new items and weapons," and a full launch in 2026. The v0.15.1 update post on February 7, 2026 closed with "See you all around for 0.16!" — a direct signal that more was coming. However, as of September 24, 2026, the last developer communication was the February 19, 2026 hotfix (v0.15.1.3). That is more than 7 months of complete silence — significantly beyond the 2–3 month cadence the developer had maintained throughout the game's Early Access period. The promised 1.0 launch, which the developer targeted for 2026, has not materialized. No version 0.16, no new planets, and no announcement of any kind has appeared since February 19, 2026. The developer has not explained the delay or communicated any change of plans. This gap raises genuine uncertainty about whether the remaining planned content is still being actively developed.

About this game

WHAT IS STARGROUND?

Starground is a top-down automation dungeon crawler combo. Alternate between gathering and refining resources on your home planet, and venturing across space to fight through action roguelite-inspired dungeons. How you split your time is entirely up to you! There's no right way to play the game, and any path will progress the story.

MULTIPLAYER

Starground was built up with multiplayer from the beginning. Experience what Starground has to offer as a full co-operative experience with as many friends as you'd like. Invite your friends to work towards common goals, or divide and conquer each part of the game. If multiplayer isn't your thing though, you can play alone in single player too!

AUTOMATION

Develop and maximize an island of resources through automation. Work your way through a research tree filled with all sorts of unique machines and solutions to your logistical needs. Start humble by mining resources by hand and smelting manually, but soon build up to a formidable factory that can tackle anything you can throw at it.

DUNGEONS

If you're not into automation, or need to wait for your factory, then venture to other places in the solar system to explore and crawl your way through a variety of dungeons. Battle enemies, avoid obstacles, kill bosses, and reap the rewards of your effort. Take resources from dungeons back to your factory, or use rare loot to make yourself stronger and craft modular weapons. Make a spear, dual-bladed sword, or maybe a gun on a stick. The choice is yours.
