Sven Co-op is a free-to-play cooperative shooter that has been in continuous development since 1999 and released on Steam on January 22, 2016. The team has shipped major updates at a sustained (if sometimes lengthy) cadence: Release 5.25 arrived on September 11, 2021, and Release 5.26 followed on December 7, 2024, adding a new map ("The Mustard Factory"), a gameplay physics overhaul, and numerous engine improvements — with the team themselves noting the roughly 3-year gap between releases. On February 18, 2025, the developers posted a preview of upcoming features for version 5.27, including a new dynamic lighting system using light probes, stating "stay tuned for more interesting updates coming soon." This confirms that work is actively continuing beyond 5.26. Sven Co-op's levels are set as missions and are generally separate from each other. Many missions span several maps and some are collected together in a series. The aim of most levels is to reach the end or to achieve an objective -- obtaining a high score is not essential to beat a level, it's just part of the fun.
