Evaluation

SWORDY entered Steam Early Access on July 21, 2016 as a local party brawler, and Frogshark released a series of meaningful updates through late 2017. The team shipped version 0.2.0 on October 8, 2016 (adding the mission system and co-op content), version 0.3.0 on November 29, 2016 (adding the Champions mode), version 0.4.0 on December 24, 2016 (adding character customization and potions), version 0.5.0 on October 6, 2017 (adding new weapons, keyboard/mouse support), and version 0.6.0 on November 24, 2017 (adding armor systems, the sledgehammer, and new combat stances). In April 2017, the developer posted a status update explaining that one team member had moved on to a teaching job and the remaining two had relocated, but confirmed they were back on track and planned to expand single-player/co-op content after version 0.5.0. That content expansion was never delivered. The last developer communication of any kind was the version 0.6.0 release post on November 24, 2017. Since that date — now more than eight years ago — there have been no patch notes, announcements, blog posts, or any other official communication from Frogshark. The game remains listed on Steam in Early Access and has never reached a 1.0 release. No statement about the conclusion of development, studio closure, or change in plans has been made publicly. Given the complete absence of communication since November 24, 2017 and the game's still-unfinished Early Access status, it is unclear whether active development is continuing or has quietly stopped.
Evidence
Version 0.6.0 released, adding armor systems, the sledgehammer, guarding stance, and auto-throw. This is the last developer communication on record.

About this game

Swordy is a local party brawler with chaotic physics-based action. Master the weapons of war, using momentum and timing to fight for your life in a world built on the bones of a ruined empire.

Our unconventional twin stick control scheme lets you wreak havoc on your opponents. Analogue sticks and triggers directly translate into character and weapon control, enabling you to time your swings, throws and stabs. Swordy’s weapons and damage model are completely physics based, you’ll need to master the momentum and weight of your character and weapon together to fight effectively. It’s easy to pick up but leaves a lot of space for mastery.

In Swordy you will wield and engage with a variety of weapon types and fighting tactics. Slashing, stabbing, piercing crushing, cleaving, throwing, and dual wielding are available in the form of swords, knives, hammers, flails, axes, shields and more as we develop.

We are working on a variety of competitive, cooperative and party game modes. You will be able to refine your skills against AI players, compete against your friends or fight together through the challenges of a harsh and mysterious land.

The world of Swordy is set in the ruins of an ancient age. Forests, deserts, plains and mountains hold what’s left of the sacred sites of cultures long since fallen.
