Evaluation

Tabletop Tavern launched on June 11, 2026 as a full 1.0 release. Before launch, on June 4, 2026, the developer announced a detailed post-launch roadmap and committed that all future updates would be completely free — no paid DLC, no expansion passes. The roadmap includes two named updates: Update 1.1 "The Rift of Magic" (spellcasting and mage units, targeting Fall 2026) and Update 1.2 "Banners of War" (Olympian Phalanx faction plus a community-chosen faction, targeting Winter 2027). Multiplayer PvP is also officially confirmed as a future addition. Since launch, the developer (a solo dev named TJ) has been extremely active, shipping multiple feature patches and communicating regularly. Most recently, on September 15, 2026, TJ announced that he has quit his day job to work on Tabletop Tavern full time, and explicitly confirmed that "everything goes into the Rift of Magic update this fall." On September 9, 2026, he shared a sneak peek of new mage units currently being developed for that update. This is the strongest possible signal that the announced "Rift of Magic" update is actively in development and on track for a Fall 2026 release. Between launch and the most recent post, the developer shipped a metaprogression overhaul, prestige system expansions, limited mod support, new AI behaviours, a hybrid unit rework, and dozens of bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements, all while preparing the Spell Casting Update. The developer's cadence and communications give no indication of any slowdown — quite the opposite, with TJ now working on the game full time.
