Evaluation
The Dream Machine is a six-chapter point-and-click adventure game developed over roughly a decade by a two-person studio. All six chapters have been released: Chapters 1 & 2 were available at launch on May 11, 2012, with Chapters 3, 4, 5, and 6 released as DLC on May 11, 2012, August 5, 2013, November 14, 2014, and May 11, 2017, respectively. Chapter 6 was explicitly described as "the final chapter" at the time of its launch in May 2017.
Following Chapter 6's release, the developers stated in October 2017 that they had "mostly moved on to other projects" while committing to occasional tweaks and bug fixes — a clear signal that the main creative work was finished. They continued delivering maintenance patches and smaller improvements through 2020 and 2021.
The most definitive statement came in the major update posted on May 10, 2021, where the developers reflected on the game's ten-year journey and described it as concluded: "It's been four years since we released the final chapter of The Dream Machine, concluding a journey almost ten years in the making." This update also added achievements, released the official soundtrack, and included an alternative ending, a new questline, and additional content — rounding out the experience as a finished package. No further content has been announced since that update, and the last developer communication was on December 14, 2021 (a small technical patch enabling future translation work). All four DLC chapters are released with no unreleased entries remaining.
Evidence
Developers describe Chapter 6 as 'the final chapter' and the game's journey as 'concluded,' celebrating a ten-year development. The update adds achievements, the official soundtrack, an alternative ending, a new questline, and additional content — explicitly framed as a celebratory capstone.
After Chapter 6's release, the developers stated they had 'mostly moved on to other projects' and would only return to fix or tweak the game occasionally.
