Evaluation

The Island of Doctor Morose launched on May 14, 2026, developed by Square Butterfly Interactive — a small five-person team making their first game. Since launch, the developer has been actively maintaining and expanding the game. Within the first two months of release, they shipped multiple bug-fix patches (versions 1.0.5 through 1.0.7), culminating in a major content update — Version 1.1.0 — on July 17, 2026. That update added new rooms to the laboratory area, a new hint system, and a brand new encounter with the character Nessie in the greenhouse. The developer followed up with a hotfix the very next day. In the Version 1.0.5 patch notes (May 17, 2026), the team explicitly teased "a very special future update which may or may not be adding new content to the game," which was subsequently fulfilled by Version 1.1.0. At the close of the 1.1.0 announcement, the developer also confirmed they are "still committed to fixing bugs and polishing certain other aspects of the game." No specific future content has been formally announced beyond ongoing polish, and there are no unreleased DLC listings. However, the game has received one major content update since its May 2026 launch, the developer has signaled ongoing engagement, and we are just over three months past release. The developer has not indicated that development or content support is winding down.

About this game

Greatmaw Island. A mysterious place miles off the shore of an old city, where new minds gather to aid Doctor Morose in his experiments for the good of mankind. Aspiring young scientists Howard and Philip were as close as friends could be...until the Doctor rejected Howard's application, and accepted Philip's. As the days without Philip go by, rumors circulate that something really bad is happening on Greatmaw Island, and that Doctor Morose is behind it. Desperate for answers and looking to reconcile with his former friend, Howard must go alone to the island of Doctor Morose in search of Philip, but is he ready for what he'll find there?

More importantly, will Howard be able to rescue his friend from the mad doctor's clutches before it's too late?
