Evaluation
The Matriarch launched on September 26, 2022 and received a steady stream of updates in its first two years. The developer (Chewa, a solo developer) shipped multiple feature updates adding new maps (The Monastery in October 2022, a Cemetery map in May 2023, a Windmill map in October 2023), new roles, new sacrifice devices, proximity voice chat, and Matriarch skins. The last substantive update to the game itself was Version 11 on April 21, 2024, which added proximity voice chat and Matriarch skins.
Since April 21, 2024, there have been no further updates, patch notes, or developer communications about The Matriarch itself. The only post after that date (October 10, 2024) was a promotion for the developer's new game, The Masquerade — a spiritual successor with a similar concept — whose demo launched on Steam. The store description promises "free updates that bring more maps and customization options," but this language appears to be legacy copy from earlier in the game's life, and no specific future content has been announced or committed to since April 2024.
The developer's attention has clearly shifted to The Masquerade, their next project. The Matriarch appears to have reached the end of its active development cycle, with the April 21, 2024 update representing the final content addition. There are no unreleased DLC listings, no announced future content, and no developer communication about The Matriarch in over 14 months (as of June 2026). The game launched as a complete product and received substantial post-launch content, all of which has shipped.
Evidence
Post announces the demo for The Masquerade, the developer's new game — a spiritual successor to The Matriarch. This is the last developer communication of any kind, and it is focused entirely on the new project rather than any updates to The Matriarch.
Version 11 adds proximity voice chat and Matriarch skins. This is the last content update shipped for The Matriarch.

Goal: Hide from the Matriarch and find the exit
They look like BOTs but are controlled by real players.
- Emulate the BOTs to avoid drawing attention to yourself, when the Matriarch is around.
- Wait for the right opportunity to go underground.
- Dig to find the path that will lead you to the exit.
- Pray that the Matriarch doesn't have you in her radar when the night comes.

Goal: Identify and Sacrifice all the Sinners
Also controlled by a player.
- Patrol the convent and observe the Nuns
- Keep track of those with suspicious behavior...
- ...or be unpredictable and catch them off guard
- Identify and Sacrifice the Sinners
