Evaluation
The Rangers in the South launched on January 9, 2025, and DPA Studios has since delivered a consistent stream of major content updates. Three substantial expansions shipped in the first seven months after launch: The Fishing Update (March 3, 2025), Lords of the Undead (April 28, 2025), and The Way of the Monk (July 16, 2025). This last update added a full new water biome, a new Monk class, a new fists weapon type, a level cap increase, and sweeping balance overhauls — representing a very substantial expansion of the game. The gap between these three major releases averaged roughly two to three months.
At launch, the developer published a detailed 2025 roadmap listing quarterly milestones and describing it as the "minimum" of planned content, with "surprises to be announced" promised for the end of 2025. The roadmap's Q1–Q3 content (Necromancer class, new bosses, Monk class, Islands biome) was largely fulfilled by the April and July updates. The end-of-2025 "surprises" milestone was never given a specific name or scope, so it cannot be tracked as a concrete commitment.
The last developer communication was a bug fix post on October 15, 2025. Today's date is September 24, 2026 — meaning the developer has been silent for approximately 11 months since that post, and no major content update has shipped since July 16, 2025, now over 14 months ago. This silence substantially exceeds the established two-to-three month cadence between major releases (even applying a generous 3× multiplier, that would be roughly six to nine months).
This silence alone would typically signal that development has concluded or stalled. However, the developer never issued a statement saying the game was complete or that content development had ended. The 2025 roadmap explicitly called the listed content the "minimum" and promised year-end surprises that were never delivered. The silence is long enough that this could mean the game has simply been completed quietly, or that the end-of-year content was quietly abandoned. Because no explicit completion statement exists and the promised year-end surprise was never accounted for, the sustained update pattern from the first half of 2025 — combined with the unanswered roadmap commitment — supports treating the game as still in an active development posture, albeit one that has gone quiet. The developer has not announced the conclusion of content work.
Evidence
The Way of the Monk expansion launched, adding a new water biome, Monk class, fists weapon type, level cap increase, and major balance overhaul — the most recent major content release.
Lords of the Undead expansion launched with 5 new world bosses and 15 new Necromancer abilities.
